The measures through which the Archive protects the physical and intellectual integrity of documents and secures their long‑term preservation.
The preservation and protection of the archival heritage are among the core activities of the Cagliari State Archives and form an essential prerequisite for any form of access and enhancement. Through continuous, specialised activities, the Institution ensures the material and intellectual protection of documents, preserving their integrity, authenticity and proper transmission to future generations.
Preservation and protection activities include: monitoring of archives, arrangement and proper management of records, technical advice on preservation, and direct preservation and restoration work. In this way, the Archive functions not merely as a place of preservation, but as an active centre of expertise – capable of preventing deterioration, intervening to safeguard the heritage, and promoting shared protection practices with institutions, organisations, and record creators.

Training courses and educational activities that promote knowledge of archival sources and historical disciplines, from the specialist level to dissemination.
The educational and training function is an integral part of the public mission of the State Archives. Through structured paths and dedicated activities, the Institution promotes knowledge of archival sources, historical research methodologies and the cultural value of preserved documentation.
The educational offer is aimed at different audiences, from professionals and scholars in specialized training to students and teachers, up to citizens interested in deepening the relationship between history, documents and institutions. In this way, the Archive is configured as a place of continuous learning, where memory becomes a tool for knowledge, awareness and cultural growth.
