1. What our service is about

Exhibitions and events are one of the main ways the Cagliari State Archives expresses its role as a cultural institution open to the community. Through exhibitions, public meetings, seminars and related initiatives, the Archives enhances its documentary heritage and makes it accessible to non-specialist audiences.
The exhibitions and events service makes it possible to turn archival documents into opportunities for storytelling, deeper insight and exchange. It encourages active engagement with historical sources and promotes dialogue between research, the local community and the public.
The initiatives can be conceived and implemented directly by the Institution or developed together with organisations, universities, cultural associations and other public and private bodies, bearing in mind the Archive’s institutional mission.

2. Types of initiatives

The exhibition and cultural activity of the Cagliari State Archives includes several types of event:

  • documentary exhibitions, both internal and external, devoted to archival holdings, historical themes, anniversaries or research pathways;
  • meetings and seminars of a scholarly or outreach nature, aimed at researchers, students and citizens;
  • meetings and presentations linked to publications, research projects or institutional initiatives;
  • cultural and outreach events designed to bring the public closer to the archival heritage through accessible language and thematic pathways.

Each initiative is designed with careful attention to scholarly rigour, source accuracy and clarity of communication.

3. Cultural mission and public value

Exhibitions and events do not have an ancillary function, but form an integral part of the work of enhancing the archival heritage.
Through these activities, the Archive:

  • fosters understanding of the territory’s institutional, social, and economic history;
  • supports research and scholarly outreach;
  • encourages cultural participation and informed access to sources;
  • strengthens its role as a place of encounter between documents, people and communities.

In this perspective, the Archives is a living memory, capable of engaging with the present and contributing actively to cultural production.

4. Collaborations and shared initiatives

The Cagliari State Archives encourages and supports proposals for collaboration in organising exhibitions and events that align with its institutional mission. Shared initiatives offer an opportunity to connect expertise, resources and different perspectives, broadening the cultural impact of the activities.
Forms of collaboration are assessed on a case-by-case basis, in accordance with scholarly, organisational and heritage-protection criteria.
