Term: Descriptive standards
International standards developed to standardise and harmonise the cataloguing of documents, governing, for example, attribution of intellectual responsibility, the way a document is headed, how the number of pages is indicated, and so on. These standards include ISBD (International Standard Bibliographic Description) for bibliographic description and ISAD(G) (General International Standard of Archival Description) for archival description.
