Term: Archival unit

Generic term used to denote the smallest indivisible unit of archival holdings, which may comprise several physically contiguous documents or consist of a single documentary unit (see entry). It may take the form of a file (see entry), register (see entry), bundle (see entry), volume (see entry) or other elementary unit.
