Meeting‑dialogue “Women and the Nation: rereading the Risorgimento in the light of 8 March and 17 March”

On Tuesday 10 March at 4 pm, in the conference room of the Cagliari State Archives, a meeting entitled “Women and the Nation: rereading the Risorgimento in the light of 8 March and 17 March” will be held.

The event will provide an opportunity to reflect on the importance of women’s role and on their active presence in historical processes. Two significant dates will form the thread running through the discussion: 8 March, International Women’s Day, and 17 March, the Anniversary of the Unification of Italy.

Bringing these two celebrations together makes it possible to focus on the history of Italy and the value of women’s contributions to social and civil causes and to collective memory. It also highlights the need for a national historiographical narrative that does not overlook women’s contribution.

Speakers will be Nicoletta Bazzano, professor at the University of Cagliari – Department of Humanities, Languages and Cultural Heritage, Anna Maria Isastia, former professor at Sapienza University of Rome, and Marco Pignotti, professor at the University of Cagliari – Department of Humanities, Languages and Cultural Heritage. The meeting will be introduced and moderated by Enrico Trogu, Director of the Cagliari State Archives.
